《语言与力量》一书介绍了一些主要的理论家，并为读者提供了一些机构话语领域的概况，如职场、媒体、监狱、法庭和学术界。不同的制度环境下如何使用语言以及语言的力量一直是社会语言学和社会理论的关注的重点。本书仔细检查了机构话语实践中的相似性和差异性，还批判地讨论了机构话语分析中的很多方法，例如互动社会语言学;会话分析;批评性语篇分析等。本次翻译实践选取了第B7、C7、D7章进行翻译。这三个章节使用了大量的例证分析了语言与法律的关系.

第B7章描述了司法话语分析的发展，其中包括预设与“引导性问题”、审讯和盘问、静电检测仪。

第C7章写的是对法律文本的探究，包括对作为语域的法律英语、静电分析仪、笔录中的语言自然主义的探究、法庭上的性别与力量与日常生活中的法律语言的探究。

第D7章从警方口头证词书面记录中虚构及隐瞒的对话，证人陈述的语言证据及判决中介绍了法律语言学。

INTRODUCTION

Language and Power is a book which provides an overview of the field of institutional discourse and introduces some main theorists, such as Foucault, Habermas, Weber. The language is used differently in different institutions, which is the main concern of both sociolinguistics and social theory. So is the language of power. The book covers plenty of different institutional contexts, such as the workplace, prison, courtroom, the media, academia, so it gives us a great chance to study the similarities and differences in the practices of institutional discourse and discuss some means to the analysis of institutional discourse including interactional sociolinguistics, ethnomethodology, critical discourse analysis, conversation analysis, and corpus-based analysis. Chapters B7、C7、D7 are chosen to be translated in this practice. There are a lot of examples used to analyze the relation between language and the law.

Chapter B7 introduces the developments in forensic discourse analysis, including presupposition and the “leading question”, interrogation and cross-examination, and the Electro-Statics Detection Apparatus.

Chapter C7 explores forensic texts, such as legal language as register, electro-static detection analysis, cultural differences in police interviews, speech naturalism in transcripts of evidence, gender and power in the court and legal language in everyday life.

Chapter D7 describes forensic linguistics, according to the invented and concealed dialogue in written records of verbal evidence produced by the police, the linguistic evidence and the judgment.
