Abstract:Film and Television translation is a new field of translation, especially the subtitle translation, which has higher requirements in the aspects of logicality, infectivity and artistry. Translation in China has a long history, but there are a few translators in film and television translation. Due to the increasingly extensive and in-depth cross-cultural communication, more and more domestic films go abroad, and foreign dubbed films also flock into China, which eyes cannot take it all. Extensive subjects such as cartoons, cultural films, thrillers and horror films are extensive, and the output of the works is increasing year by year. Men or women, the old or the young, all the people could enjoy from them. The future of film and television translation is bright. Qian Shaochang, a famous translator, also believes that in the current social development, the number of subtitle translation in film and television works has far exceeded translation in literary works. Moreover, the role of film and television works is becoming more and more prominent, so, subtitle translation is gradually becoming an important field as well. This paper takes the classic European and American films Titanic and The Shaw shank Redemption as the case study，and analyzes the translation characteristics of the subtitle translation in European and American films. Considering of the research objects that the author chooses, this paper takes case. study. and. text. analysis to appreciate  the characteristics of subtitle translation.
