Abstract: This thesis aims to analyze the character depiction of Jo from a transcendentalist perspective. The study is to be done by an examination of transcendentalism reflected in the depiction of Jo in Little Women along with a study of the personal experience of the author and the content of transcendentalism. The paper holds that Jo is a model of transcendentalism: transcendentalist thoughts run through her personality, her pursuit of writing and her marriage. She is a girl of self-reliance and independence, learning to keep her individualism in many aspects. Nature also plays an important role in the process of her spiritual perfection. It’s the transcendentalism that makes Jo most beloved by readers.

摘要：本文旨在对小说《小妇人》中乔的描写中所体现的超验主义色彩进行深入剖析，同时对作者的生活经历和超验主义的内容进行深入考证，尝试从一种全新的视角来探讨作者在描写乔时所体现的超验主义色彩。文章认为，小说中的乔是超验主义的典范，超验主义色彩充斥在她的个性以及写作和婚姻中，她在很多方面保持自己的个性，并坚持独立和自助。在她精神升华的过程中，自然的力量也不可忽视。也正是这样的超验主义色彩使乔深受读者的喜爱。
