Abstract: Based on Alfred Adler’s theory about inferiority complex, compensation and striving for superiority, this paper aims to analyze the motivation of Heathcliff’s revenge in Wuthering Heights. Part I and part II give a brief introduction to an Austrian psychologist—Alfred Adler and his most famous theory of inferiority. Part III analyzes the environmental factors and the individual factors for the formation of Heathcliff’s inferiority in his childhood. And this explains three questions: why Heathcliff leaves Wutheing Heights; why he takes his revenge on Hindley and Edgar; how he is destroyed by his inferiority. Part IV is the conclusion that Adler’s theory helps to explain Heacliff’s inner world thoroughly.

摘要：本文运用阿尔佛雷德•阿德勒关于自卑情结、补偿机制和追求优越感的理论来分析《呼啸山庄》中希斯克利夫复仇行为的动机。文章第一和第二部分简单介绍了奥地利心理学家阿尔佛雷德•阿德勒和他著名的关于自卑的理论。第三部分分析了希斯克利夫幼年时形成自卑的环境因素和个体因素，解释了三个问题：他为什么会离开呼啸山庄；他为什么对于辛德雷和埃德加施以复仇行为，以及他怎样因为自卑而走向毁灭的。最后一部分得出结论：阿德勒的理论帮助我们透彻地解释了希斯克利夫的内心世界。
