此次翻译的书名为《语言的简史》，作家是戴维·克里斯特尔，诞生于北爱尔兰的英国举世闻名的语言学家和学者，在初期阶段，进行过英语应用的研究。大家可以从这本书上学到很多可以利用的东西。

本书中有很多值得研习的内容，让读者收获颇丰。从儿童语言习得的过程到语内、语际和历时、共时语言现象再到语言运用和钻研。作家经过陈列语言事实，并得出结论。作品为全部语言爱好者提供了一扇窗户，经过这扇窗户，大家可以领悟到一个广阔的语言寰宇。

本书共四十章，第一部分为译文，本论文翻译该书第32-35章，主要写语言的运用和研究。第32章写为什么使用语言。使用语言的目的是为了交流。我们使用语言来互相交流想法和见解。人们使用双关语是为了乐趣。并且每天我们都会使用语言与他人建立良好的社会关系。此外，语言还是使一切发生的手段。第33章写语言感情色彩。语言允许我们用多种方式描述同一件事情。以及用感性的方式思考事物。第34章写语言的政治正确性。我们要避免使用带有侮辱性的话语。第25章写文学语言。用文学作品来表达语言。

第二部分着重于解决翻译过程中出现的一些问题，以及总结翻译文本时的感悟。

A Little Book of Language is written by David Crystal who is born in Northern Ireland, a famous British experts and philologian . In the early period, he studied the application of English. 

This book is very popular and conducive to every readers . From the process of Children's linguistic to synchronic linguistic phenomena .Besides, including application of linguistic .The author shows the facts of language, draws the conclusion. The essay supply a window for all language lovers. And through this window, we can see a vast world of language. 

The book including 40 chapters. The first part of the paper is the translation of Chapters 32 to 35 of this book. The thirty-second chapter describes language’s use. The primary purpose of language is for communication. We use language to communicate our ideas and opinions to each other. People use puns in order to increase the interest. Every day ,we are getting along with other people by using language to build social relationships. Besides, language is the means makes it all happen. The thirty-third chapter writes the language of emotional color. Language often allow us several ways to saying the same thing and makes us thing of things in an emotional way. The thirty-fourth chapter is about political correctness. We specially avoid using certain names if they are felt to be insulting. The thirty-fifth chapter is about literary language. We often use language to create a work of art.

The second part of the paper focuses on resolutions to the problems frequently arising in the process of the translation and finally gives a summary of the translation.
