INTRODUCTION

THE SUMMER I FOUND MYSELF irritates series things which happened during the summer after the school promotion of the main character. This book tells about Mercy’s love, friendship and the exploration of new things. The loss of her to the return to a simple and pure girl. The exploration and freshness between love and friendship satisfied heroine’s curiosity to those never done things.   

The two chapters which I choose to translate according to the original novel tells reader the end part of the whole story and the final choice of the heroine. The whole passage used the way of narration, most of the language are dialogues. From time to time, it would use the third-person to picture the surrounding views, to render novel atmosphere and to present characters’ psychological situation.

The selected fifth chapter has moved to the sweet love between the main characters. Meanwhile, heroine Mercy tried to do something she never done such as smoke drugs. Later, she was caught by Mike and he suggested the short-time breakup.

During the short-time breakup, Mercy experienced lots of ups and downs for the first time. She felt her deep love toward Mike and acknowledged the wrong behavior to smoke drugs with Shelly. She couldn’t bear the separation with Mike. There’s no doubt that it’s a huge pain and suffer to her.

The sixth chapter, Mercy contacted Mike actively. And they repaired their relationship as before. At last, four of them are enjoying the National Fireworks Shoe at the beach.

Writer recalled everything happened in the summer holiday. She sighed the loss of herself and appreciated the return of herself through the help of the love and friendship. That summer holiday was irreplaceable for her and would be remembered by her forever.
