Abstract:Pride and Prejudice is a very popular novel written by Jane Austen and has been read widely all over the world. It was written in 1813. This paper generally analyses the two elements – pride and prejudice. Traditionally speaking, pride and prejudice are always considered as harmful and negative elements. However, they are intimately related in the novel and play an important role in it. Social milieu and characters’ personalities cause pride and prejudice; they can help the reader understand the characters, the plot and the novel. They also play an important role for the development of the novel. The two elements serve as stimulus and will be the key for us to understand the novel.

中文摘要:简·奥斯丁的《傲慢与偏见》自1983年问世以来，一直深受世界各地读者的欢迎和喜爱。本文着眼于分析傲慢和偏见这两个因素,传统观点认为傲慢和偏见总是有害的和消极的。但这两个因素在小说中是密切相关的并起了重要的作用。社会环境和人物性格造就了傲慢和偏见这两种态度,通过这两个因素可以帮助我们了解到了人物的性格特征和情节的发展。它们在小说的发展中扮演着重要的角色。傲慢和偏见在小说中是促进因素,并帮助我们更好的理解这篇小说。
