Abstract:D.H.Lawrence is the greatest novelist in the history of English literature of the 20th century. He has devoted all his life to criticizing the persecution of anthropocentrism and patriarchy to nature and women. The Rainbow is considered the ultimate attainment of his novels. The thesis will interpret The Rainbow from the point of eco-feminism. Lydia’s beginning to concern herself, Anna’s struggling against her husband’s will and Ursula’s fighting against patriarchy society and finally becoming a new woman respectively represent the beginning, development and maturity of women’s consciousness. Lydia’s casting off nightmare by nature, Anna’s finding peace through nature and Ursula’s getting spiritual support from nature all symbolize the harmonious relationship between women and nature. Lawrence explores the relationship between men and women, nature and women, attempting to arise the importance of protecting nature and guiding women to be dependent.
