Abstract:This study introduces the definition of cognitive metaphor, the research of cognitive metaphor both domestic and abroad, and the movie Saw. Also, it presents the analysis result of metaphorical meaning of some images in the film. The author investigates how the images in Saw show the atmosphere of terror from the view of cognitive metaphor, further analysis of the metaphorical meaning behind these details in the movie, and human nature and moral that the movie wants to express. The purpose of the author is to analyze the characteristics of the film through cognitive metaphor. With the help of the construction function of cognitive metaphor, the author makes a careful analysis of the film. Meanwhile, it presents a simple appreciation of the film from the point of view of cognitive metaphor.
