Abstract:Grammatical metaphor theory is first proposed by Halliday, who puts the grammatical metaphor into ideational metaphor and interpersonal metaphor. Nominalization is the most common form of ideational metaphor. Based on the theory of grammatical metaphor, this paper studies the types and functions of nominalization through selected examples in foreign trade correspondence texts. Mastering nominalization can help analyze and understand foreign trade correspondence text, and it can also play a guiding role in foreign trade correspondence writing and teaching.
This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background of the study, the concept of foreign trade correspondence and the structure of the paper. The second chapter analyzes the present study of the relevant subject both at home and abroad. Chapter three introduces the theory of grammatical metaphor, the definition of nominalization and the types of nominalization. The fourth chapter is the focus of this paper. It introduces the types and functions of nominalization in foreign trade correspondence texts. Nominalization can enhance the formality, strengthen the objectivity and improve the brevity and cohesion of foreign trade correspondence. The last chapter summarizes this paper and points out the limitations and suggestions for improvement of this paper.
