Abstract:Most English clauses can be translated according to their grammatical forms, but this is not often the case. In some cases, the conversion of adverbial clause in Chinese translation is quite necessary. If the translator is familiar with the phenomeno of the contradiction of form and content, the meaning of the original text can be well reproduced in translation. Adverbial clause is a clause used as the adverb in a sentence. Adverbial clauses exist in both English and Chinese languages. So the study of conversion of adverbial clauses occurring in bilingual translation is very necessary.
In the perspectives of grammar and translation studies, this thesis compared great differences between English and Chinese adverbial clauses, probe into the conversion between English and Chinese clauses and the conversion between adverbial clauses and other elements of the sentences.
