Abstract:With the development of science and technology and the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, a great deal of the British and American film and television works enter into domestic market, and gain popularity among young people. Some new features are presented in the subtitle translation of these works. From the perspective of Lefevere’s Rewriting Theory, this thesis attempts to analyze the subtitle translation of the British miniseries Sherlock, aiming to reasonably summarize the rewriting strategies in the series, and provide reference for translating lovers. The study found that translators utilize buzzwords, poems and idioms, etc. to rewrite the original texts when translating in order to meet the entertainment demands of audiences. Meanwhile, the rewriting behaviors are manipulated by ideology and poetics.
