Abstract
For thousands of years, numbers of experts and scholars at home or abroad have continuously done the research of translation and made some big achievements. Because of differences in geography, cultural awareness, translation ideas and aesthetic viewpoint, different translators have summed up their own translation principles, but some basic principles of translation must be followed by any translator. Nowadays, with the rapidly development of economy and global integration, there is a strong sense of communication between countries. Translation has been paid more and more attention to. The development of translation activities has promoted cultural communication, and translation has become indispensable. The initial and most important purpose of translation is for the benefit of cultural exchange, so that people in two or more different language environments can communicate with each other without barriers, and the policies and methods of translation can be broadly divided into literal translation, free translation, domestication and foreignization. Based on the basic theories of linguistics and translation, the author has collected necessary information, analyzed and summed up some basic principles of English-Chinese translation. In this paper the author has briefly introduced the definition, process, importance and some translation standards, and has then discussed the minimum translation unit , the translation of attributive, understanding the original context of the specific reference, the standardization of the target language and many other aspects.
