Abstract: In the 1980s, Krashen put forward Affective Filter Hypothesis. He believed that people acquired a language once the “comprehensible input” penetrated the affective filter and reached the learner’s innate Language Acquisition Device(LAD). However, it is regrettable that little research has been made in English teaching in primary schools by means of the Affective Filter Hypothesis .The research objective of this paper is primary school students, the approach to the research is Affective Filter Hypothesis. There are many factors affecting foreign language teaching and SLA, but it is impossible to find a factor which will suit all the students who have different educational and cultural backgrounds, learning styles, interests, etc. We firmly believe that second language acquisition theories are of relevance and of a great help to foreign language teaching in China, but at the same time we have realized that we should try to use second language acquisition theories in accordance with the special requirements of the students in foreign language teaching in China. The purpose of the use of second language acquisition theories in primary schools is to lay a solid foundation in pupils liking English in their childhood so that their English will not shake in future English learning , and it will bring up pupils’ growing interest in English. ( Xue Rong, 1992:2 ). Primary school education is basic instruction. It has far-reaching influence in one’s future education. For example, if English teachers in primary schools use English affective teaching in practice , they may arouse pupils’ affective sympathy, and pupils will like them and English taught by them, thus they would like learn English hard and well. This favorable English learning tendency will become a stronger drive and greater confidence in oneself in one’s late English learning. And they will never be afraid of learning English in junior schools any more, on the contrary , they will be more active in many kinds of English learning activities in English class because he/she has some successful experiences in learning English in primary schools. Well begun is half done. We should believe it. Since second language acquisition(SLA) is a broad and open-ended field that contains great potential for constant improvement , as long as someone can get some inspiration and hints from it, this paper achieves its goal.
