Abstract: Metaphors of translation refer to comparing translation or translator to other things, which can help us understand translation especially literary translation. And the study of that is of great significance. However, people’s understanding on metaphors of translation used to be at a single and isolated level. By using the comparative method, the paper investigates and studies both Chinese and Western metaphors of translation that have appeared in the translation study. With a systematic collection and categorization of Chinese and Western metaphors on translation, the paper analyzes and discusses the contexts in which they occur and the cultural implications they carry. The purpose of this paper is to help people better understand the nature of translation practice and translation theories.
