本翻译所选的第1章《世界末日会很快来临》是以一个12岁的犹太男孩——大卫的日记为主线，讲述了1939年9月1日战火波及犹太人时，他们所受到的种种不公：犹太人不许7点以后出门，否则就要被射杀。大卫在日记里有记载到邻居的一个小女孩就是因此被射杀了，而他自己也几次濒临被射杀的绝境；军队对犹太人肆意抢掠，为免家里仅有的物品被军队抢走，几乎每家都把能卖的卖掉，能租出去的租出去；强迫犹太人从事劳动，大卫的父亲就曾被抓走过；军队所到之处，大多数犹太人都失业了，大卫家本来有几头奶牛，这是他们全家用来糊口的唯一来源，但是，在军队到来之后，奶牛都被卖掉了，举家过着艰难的日子，最后，即使搬家也未能幸免于难；军队还到处随意抓捕犹太人，连小孩也不放过。大卫在日记里，真实地记录了他的所见所闻以及所感，把法西斯纳粹的暴行真实地揭露了出来。

INTRODUCTION

We are Witnesses consists of diaries written by several children victims. They suffered a lot in World War Two. Their diaries are the proof of Nazis’ brutality on Jews and Poland.

I chose the first chapter is “The End of the World Will Soon Be Here”, which bases on a twelve-year old Jewish boy—David’s diary. In his diary, he exposed their unbearable suffering after the Germen swept Poland in September 1, 1939. Jews would be shot if they went out after 7 pm and David’s neighbor—a girl was shot for this. The militiamen always robbed things from villagers. So in order to protect their property, villagers sold or had their belongings rented. The Jews were forced to labor and David’s father had been captured. People were unemployed in places where taken by Germen soldiers. David’s family had a dairy shop before the war and lived an easy life on this shop. However, after the militiamen came their shop was closed, their cows were sold, and then they had a hard time. David’s families were forced to “evacuate” to another city. The militiamen captured Jews, even the children were on the list. David’s diaries reported the truths he know and discovered the brutality of Nazis.
