Abstract：Teaching reading is a complex process. There are several reasons that students fail in reading comprehension: A. Failure to understand a word; B. Failure to understand a sentence; C. Failure to understand how sentences relate to one another; D. Failure to understand how the information fits together in a meaningful way; E. Lack of interest or concentration. Teachers should help students understand reading materials and arouse students’ interests through many reading skills. In this paper, the author talks about some effective reading skills of how to help students understand reading materials better and how to improve their reading ability.

中文摘要：英语阅读教学是一个复杂的过程。导致学生不能理解阅读材料的原因有很多：不能理解一个词；不能理解一个句子；不能理解句子间的关系；不能理解综合信息所表达的意义；缺乏兴趣或精力不集中。教师应运用阅读技巧帮助学生理解阅读材料，激发学生的阅读兴趣。本文简单论述了七种帮助学生更好地理解阅读材料、提高阅读能力的阅读技巧。
