Abstract
English, as a major international language, has played a prominent role in international political, economic and cultural exchanges. In order to adjust to the new tendency, English curriculum is of great necessity to the curriculum implementation of education for all-around development. Listening, as a basic skill in English learning, plays a significant role in English Teaching. Multiple Intelligences Theory(MI Theory)was put forward in 1983 by Professor Howard Gardner, an American famous developmental psychologist and educator. MI theory puts forward that human possess at least eight intelligences, so teachers cannot simply regard their students as advanced pupils or underachievers. It advocates that only by paying more attention to their students’ individual differences, trying to identify their characters and taking advantage of their specialties to teach English can teachers accomplish the maximum efficiency of English teaching, which has important implications for language education.
This paper strives to explore the English listening teaching in senior high school based on multiple intelligences theory. It first introduces the definition and characteristics of multiple intelligences. Then it states the characteristics and principles of listening teaching, analyses the current situation and problems in English listening teaching in senior high school in China. Together with analysis of examples, this paper emphatically probes into the listening teaching strategies guided by this theory in senior high school. The author hopes this study can help deepen further research on English teaching, and meanwhile promote students’ all-round development as well as the implement of quality education.
