Abstract
Vocabulary teaching is the basis of English teaching, and vocabulary teaching is the most important part of English education in Tibetan areas. The study is in the backward conditions of the Tibetan English teaching, I using a questionnaire survey method, interview method, classroom observation method, in order to understand the status of vocabulary teaching in Tibetan areas and the major problems existing , and the solving measures taken by Tibetan teachers and schools. Research shows that in the English classroom, vocabulary teaching is the main teaching content, but the teachers use the vocabulary teaching methods that used to teach students of Han areas to teach Tibetan students, it is not appropriate for the Tibetan students, teachers and school are actively trying to find the learning and teaching methods that fit the Tibetan areas, in order to build a good basic knowledge of English vocabulary for students, to broader scope of learning English in the future; the country also adopted many reform measures to promote the development of English education in Tibetan area, for example, the establishment of free normal students. Expected there are efficient results in the next few years.
