Abstract
There is no doubt that questioning is always an important means of classroom teaching. It is said that almost 80% of the class time is devoted to questioning. Carefully designed questions can guide Students to think actively, take the initiative to learn and also enable them to engage in classroom activities. Therefore, the investigation into this field is of great value.
On the basis of previous research, this thesis chooses 13 winners of The 9th Teaching Skills Competition of Zhejiang Province in 2015 as the research subjects. The participants are all English pre-service teachers and their performance during the competition are recorded, transcribed and analyzed. In this thesis, the author analyzes the use of different questions in pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading stages based on Bloom’s six question types. Besides, the difference between middle school reading class and high school reading class is compared and discussed.
In the end, the author finds that both in pre-reading and while-reading stage, lower-level questions overwhelm higher-level questions, but the percentage of higher-level category is higher in while-reading stage. However, the post-reading stage gives an opposite situation: higher-level questions dominate lower-level questions. As for different education levels, middle school teachers prefer to use more knowledge questions, while high school teachers prefer comprehension questions. And high school teacher are better at raising higher-level questions.
