Abstract

Architectural English is one branch of EST, while EST is attached to ESP. As the development globalization, professional English translation of construction engineering plays a significant role in learning advanced design approach and construction technique.

As a branch of applied translation, scholars both at home and abroad have made much academic research on architectural English translation from different perspectives. They put forward some instructive translation methods, strategies and principles, which have laid a solid foundation for the subsequent research in this field. However, few people would study it from the perspective of functionalist translation theory. 

This paper attempts to analyze the stylist features of architectural English in terms of vocabulary, syntax and discourse from macro level, so as to explore the text types and purpose of architectural translation. In addition, it will analyze and study strategies of architectural English translation under functionalist translation theory from the perspectives of functional equivalence translation strategy, semantic and communicative translation strategy and instrumental translation strategy, which will combine specific examples of architectural English as well. Finally, this paper aims to provide some practical suggestions for translating architectural English accurately in the whole process of English translation.
