Abstract: Euphemism has been a common language phenomenon and widely used in people’s daily life. Whether from the aspect of social linguistics or pragmatics, the use of euphemism in journalistic English is quite common. Euphemism, with its unique features and effects, plays an important role in media. This paper aims to analyze the linguistic features of journalism euphemism, reflecting its important pragmatic functions and significance in people’s social communication. The use of euphemism not only emphasizes the traditional expressions of taboo, but also relates with politics, diplomacy and religion backgrounds. Furthermore, this paper will study translation strategies of euphemism in news, which can provide references for English learners and scholars.
