Abstract: Jane Eyre and Tess are both classic novels in Victorian Age, and the two main female characters, Jane Eyre and Tess, are the great women images in the history of world literature. This study aims to compare Jane Eyre and Tess in three aspects, independence pursuit, rebellious spirit and view of love in order to find out the similarities and differences between the two women. The paper concludes that the difference in their persistence leads to their different endings.

摘要：《简爱》和《苔丝》都是英国维多利亚时期的经典小说。而两位女主人公简爱和苔丝也是世界文学史上伟大的女性形象。本文旨在从追求独立、反抗精神和爱情观这三个角度对简爱与苔丝进行对比分析，探究简爱与苔丝在这三个方面的异同及这些异同对她们各自命运的影响。最后得出结论，正是她们不同程度的坚持导致她们最终不同的结局。
