Abstract:This paper studies The Storm of Kate Chopin from the rhetorical point of view. It analyzes the applications and significances of symbolism, irony and allegory respectively, and it also summarizes the influence in the plot development, making by those three rhetoric methods. The research shows that there is a strong correlation between storyline development and rhetorical devices. Symbolism makes the content of the story more substantial, especially resulting in its ambiguity; irony not only highlights the openness of author's thought, but also makes the work be with a higher culture-carried capacity; allegory is responsible for a multi-layered storyline in this story.
