Abstract
Tang poetry plays an important role in the glorious and profound culture of China, and the translation of Tang poetry into English is especially important in today's world. In recent years, not only many Chinese translators actively involved in poetry translation, foreign translators also joined the ranks of the translation of Tang poetry, which plays a positive role in the dissemination of brilliant art of Tang poetry and the promotion of the development of world poetry. In poetry translation, there are many figures of speech to translate, such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, metonymy and so on. This paper mainly studies the metonymy words in classical Chinese poems of Tang dynasty and how scholars classify them. This essay analyzes the representative poems in four different genres and they are landscape pastoral poetry , frontier fortress poetry, application of Chinese translator in the classical poetry translation of metonymy rhetoric, romantic poetry and realistic poetry. Finally this essay briefly researches on eight classifications of metonymy words of Tang dynasty.
