Abstract
With the development of China, the communications between China and the West are strengthening. The prosperity of China’s tourist industry has made many renowned tourist attractions popular worldwide. Translation is an important means of intercultural communication. Excellent interpretation of scenic can convey the connotation of Chinese traditional culture to the world accurately. Therefore, excellent and accurate translation plays a vital role in cross-cultural communication. However, there are huge differences of cultures and the language environments between China and the West. Therefore, in the translating process, in addition to the transfer of languages, cultural elements should also be paid attention to.
In view of this situation, this paper taking Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory as its starting points, uses examples from the C-E translation of tourist introductions in Nanjing to analyze the application of functional equivalence theory in the translation of tourist introductions, so as to explore proper ways for translating tourist introductions.
