Abstract:In the traditional teaching pattern, the teachers are the center in class, thus they have the right to decide what to teach, and, the students become the receivers in class, they just have to keep what the teachers say in their mind clearly, then they will get much progress in English. They don’t have room to create and decide something they really like to do.
But with the development of education, more and more scholars have the view that students should have their own opinions in class, and they can have discussions with others. So the Student-centered teaching pattern becomes more and more popular among the students and teachers.
Former Soviet educator Sue Home Linsky said, “ teaching should make students produce many kinds of experience, such as finding surprising, happy and satisfying curiosity and how to create joy. Then the learner can learn and think with high and hot-blooded excitement, so the teaching becomes an activity which is filled with vigor.” However, how to create such an ideal learning hall? What we should do is to master every aspect of learning. Reasonable teaching can ensure that each student is willing to take active part in learning, so as to improve the teaching efficiency, and develop the students’ autonomous learning ability. English Teaching under new curriculum advocates teacher to consider the task as the basis and take the students as the main body to organize teaching activities.
The paper first introduces the definition, development, advantages and disadvantages of Teacher-centered and Student-centered English classroom teaching process, then, analyze the Student-centered English classroom teaching concretely. Finally it narrates how to implement the strategy of the Student-centered English classroom teaching in every aspect.
