Abstract:
English is one of the most frequently used languages all over the world. To master English is to have a valuable tool for global communication. Thus, English teaching and learning have become increasingly popular in many countries. And in the course of English learning, Vocabulary acquisition is one of the important parts for it is the fundamental ways to learn English and also the premise of language application. However, many EFL students in China seem not to succeed in dealing with English words. One reason is that students are influenced by the traditional ideas that learning English should pay more attention to grammar and sentence structure instead of words thus they learn English words just by memorizing pronunciation, spelling and general meaning. Besides, as far as teacher is concerned, they tend to think that students can learn English words well by themselves thus little instructions are given to students on how to learn words efficiently. As a result, there are many occasions when students cannot use words precisely and correctly.
This paper mainly deals with sense relations of English words and how to learn vocabulary efficiently according to sense relations. Its aim is to prove the significance of sense relation in vocabulary learning and meanwhile to let people realize the importance of having a good knowledge of sense relation.
