Abstract:In recent years, researchers at home and abroad have attached great importance to the studies about the communicational function of euphemism. Accordingly, various studies on the communicational function of euphemism have been evoked both in the foreign countries and in China. Nevertheless, most of these studies focused their attention mainly on the functions of etiquette, dissemblance and evasion. Therefore, this study attempts to analyze communicative function of euphemism from Forrest Gump so that people can learn how to use euphemism properly in cross-cultural communication. Euphemism is a commonly linguistic phenomenon in cross-culture communication, in which people can get satisfied expression effect by studying the communicational functions of euphemism.

　　　In this study, the paper will research into five communicative functions of euphemism including the etiquette, encouragement, education, evasion and dissemblance based on the five examples in Forrest Gump which not only allow people to have a more comprehensive understanding of the communicational functions of euphemism, but also know how to make good use of euphemism in different background and environment. People can use the proper euphemism to minimize hurt to people and to achieve the purpose of effective communication, which also help people clear the communication barriers in cross-culture communication and make contribution to successful communication.

摘要:近年来，委婉语的交际功能受到了国内外学者的重视，而这在国内外也引发了一系列关于委婉语交际功能方面的研究。然而，这些研究的实验对象都过于集中，以委婉语交际功能里的礼仪功能，掩饰功能和避讳功能为主。因此，本研究旨在从电影《阿甘正传》中分析委婉语的交际功能，以便人们能更好地在跨文化交际中正确使用委婉语。在跨文化交际中委婉语是一种常见的语言现象，人们可通过学习委婉语的交际功能在跨文化交际中取得满意的表达效果。

　　　在本次研究中，我们将通过分析《阿甘正传》里的场景来研究委婉语的礼仪功能、鼓励功能、教育功能、逃避功能和掩盖功能。这样不但能让人们对委婉语的交际功能有更全面的理解，并且通过例子分析能让人们懂得如何在不同的背景和环境下有效地使用委婉语，真正用好委婉语。这不仅能减少言语对人的伤害和达到有效沟通的目的，并且帮助人们通过了解委婉语产生的文化背景和风俗习惯等后，在跨文化交际中清除障碍和促进交流。
