An Analysis of Themes, Symbols and Language in “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” by Hemingway

摘  要

　　　本文通过象征和语言技巧两方面探讨美国著名小说家海明威的短篇小说一个干净明亮的地方的主题。他认为一战后人们的精神世界是孤独而又虚无飘渺的，正是面对这样孤独的生活，人们更需要追求秩序，光明和自尊的生活。

Abstract

　　　This paper focus on the analysis of A Clean, Well-Lighted Place .It is one of the best-known and compact short stories by Ernest Hemingway. In the story, we can feel loneliness-the principle tragedy of modern human life. Though life may be followed by nada, or nothingness and loneliness. Strong individuals can embrace life and live it with dignity and honor. In this paper, I tried to make an analysis of its themes on two levels: the symbols and the creative use of language in the story.
