Abstract:The Big Bang Theory is an American situation comedy, which mainly tells the humorous and funny anecdotes of life between four talented scientists and a beautiful restaurant waitress. It combines the scientific theory, which is not familiar to us, with the daily life tactfully, and enjoys the great popularity among Chinese audience due to its unique language, its humorous plots, and the smart translation of subtitle. There are different Chinese subtitle versions for it. Taking two of them translated by YYeTs (YYeTs is the abbreviated name of a translation group, which is 人人影视 in Chinese) and ShengCheng Group (SCG is the shortened form for ShengCheng Group, which is 圣城家园 in Chinese) as the objects, this thesis makes a contrastive study from three perspectives, such as translation strategies, language style and cultural image, to reveal the proper translation principles and effective translation strategies for subtitle translation.
