Abstract: Language is a vehicle of culture, it not only reflects culture but also influences culture in the meantime, and it can also be sustained by culture. American English is an important branch of the English language; it’s the product of the development of American society and culture. It differs from contemporary British English in various aspects and it has its characteristics rooted in American culture. This article aims to research the origin of the American English, and compares its characteristics in the aspects of the identity, phonology, phonetics, vocabulary with the Received Pronunciation, also introduces several certain regional dialects of American English, and it will research the cultural expressions of American English.

摘要：美国英语是现代英语的重要分支。它渊源于英国英语,又区别于英国英语，作为美国社会和文化发展的产物，在许多方面都有别于同时代的英国英语，在语音、词汇和语法等方面都有所差异,尤以语音和词汇的差异更为明显。与英国英语相比,美国英语在今天发展更快,影响更大,因而日益受到人们的重视。语言是文化的载体，它既反映文化又影响文化，同时离不开文化的支律。美国英语是美国社会和文化发展的产物，在许多方面都体现着美国文化的特性。因此本文将着重研究美国英语的起源及其主要特征及美国英语的部分代表性方言，并且对美国英语的文化体现作出一定的研究。
