Abstract: Idioms are an important part of the language and culture of a society. Meanwhile, idioms are greatly influenced and shaped by culture. Both in English and Chinese, there are many idioms which are closely related to geographical circumstances, conventions, religious beliefs and historical backgrounds of local countries. With these differences, idiom translation is a very hard work. This paper summarizes the influence of cultural differences existing in idiom translation. Then it puts forward some approaches to dealing with cultural differences in idiom translation.

摘要：习语是一个社会的语言和文化的重要组成部分，同时又受到文化的影响。英文与汉语中有大量习语和民族的地理环境、习俗、信仰以及历史文化等密切相连。它们反映了各自文化差异，这些文化差异性加深了习语翻译的难度。因此本文拟从文化差异的角度来分析英语习语的翻译。本文通过对英汉习语文化背景的比较，分析了由于中西文化差异造成的翻译困难,并结合实例，总结出在习语翻译过程中应注意的问题以及可以使用的方法。
