Abstract: Emerson believed that nature guides human souls and loved nature all his life. To Emerson, human beings and nature are the same in their souls. Nature represents rational knowledge, honesty, ethics, nobleness, beauty and love. Emerson’s ideas on nature encourage us to learn from nature. In order to build a dynamic, stable, orderly and harmonious society, mankind should being to live harmoniously with nature. This is an important part of the essence of sustainable development. This paper discusses the implication of Emerson’s views on nature and the lights they throw on effective ways to build a harmonious society.

摘要：自然是心灵的导师，爱默生一生热爱自然，认为人与自然在精神上有一种对等的关系，自然象征着理性与忠诚、道德与崇高、美与爱。他提倡人们敞开心扉跟自然学习。要建立充满活力，安定有序的和谐社会，恰恰要求人与自然的和谐相处，实现可持续发展。本文讨论爱默生的自然观与建立和谐社会之间联系，以及对实现之的理论指导意义。
