Abstract: Melanie is a very impressive figure in Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone with the Wind. This paper is intended to analyze the complexity of Melanie’s personality from the perspective of the Id, Ego, and Superego, which is the theory of personality developed by Freud. It also compares Melanie’s personality traits with that of Scarlett, as well as the attitudes toward hardships and the reason why they are different. In that case, we can learn a lot from her, such as love, trust, smile, sincerity and kindness.
