Abstract: There have been various kinds of views about translation standards since the appearance of translation. The most influential one in modern ages is raised by Yan Fu. He advocates faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance. Obviously different translators have different translating styles and different understanding of the context. This article aims to contrast two Chinese versions of The Scarlet Letter on choice of words, sentence structures and their understanding of the context.

摘要：关于翻译的标准，多年来充满了见仁见智，众说纷纭的现象。近代翻译史中最有影响力的莫过于严复的“信、达、雅”的翻译标准。当然不同的译者对作品有着不同的理解，也有着不同的翻译风格。本文以《红字》为文本，拟从选字，句子结构，语境的理解等方面比较两中文译本，以比较两译本的不同翻译风格。
