Abstract: The Joy Luck Club tells stories of four Chinese mothers and their daughters who grow up in America. This essay aims to investigate the conflicts between Chinese and American cultures revealed in the film from the following five aspects: conflicts in traditions between China and America, conflicts between Confucianism and natural rights, conflicts between Chinese modesty and American straightforwardness, conflicts reflected in couple relationship, conflicts in family education between China and America. It also proposes that communication between different cultures needs mutual respect and understanding. People should try their best to know and respect each other’s culture to avoid the emergence of conflict.

摘要：电影《喜福会》讲述四对母女在美国成长的故事。本文从五个方面探讨了电影《喜福会》所体现的中美文化冲突：中美传统的冲突、儒家思想与天赋人权思想的冲突、中国的谦虚与美国的直爽冲突、夫妻关系所体现的冲突、中美家庭教育的差异。同时也指出了不同文化之间的交流需要的尊重与理解,人们应该尽最大的努力去了解与尊重他国的文化从而避免不必要的冲突。
