Abstract:This thesis aims to analyze Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to explain its application in the translation of English Idioms in order to reveal the fundamental principle of the translation of English Idioms. According to Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory: Translating consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language message first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style. When putting this theory into application, translators should put these three factors into consideration: a natural equivalent, the priority of meaning and the significance of style in order to keep the original meaning of the source language and satisfy different cultural background.

摘要:本文通过对奈达的功能对等理论的分析，浅释其理论在英语习语翻译中的运用, 从而揭示出英语习语翻译的基本原则。按照尤金·奈达的对等理论: 所谓翻译，是指从语义到文体在译语中用最贴近而又最自然的对等语再现原语的信息。当把此理论运用到英语习语翻译上，译者需要从三个方面来考虑:即自然对等,意义优先,文体的重要性。力求做到既保持其英语习语的原有内涵，又能符合不同的文化背景。
