Abstract:This paper is dedicated to exploring C. S. Lewis’s literary design of the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. 

　　　In Narnia series, as an evil character, the White Witch plays crucial role on the development of plots. The author described her cruelty and coldness when narrating the story, and on the other hand, he laid a hint about the inner state of her mind, which could show the readers another unfamiliar characteristic of the witch. In this paper, we shall focus on two sides of the witch, one is the seemingly powerful side, which concerns with her cruelty and grim; another is the subtly powerless side, which will conduct her underlying details of her loneliness and weakness.

　　　The White Witch has its archetype in fairy tales. Readers generally take her as the grim and cold figure. Deeper exploration of her subtle features could help us further understand the relationship between her and the positive characters, and gain deeper understanding of the writer’s intension and the meaning of the novel.

摘要:本论文主要关注并分析英国著名儿童文学家C. S. 路易斯《狮子，女巫和橱柜》中白女巫的特点分析。

　　　在纳尼亚传奇中，白女巫作为反面角色对故事情节的发展起着至关重要的作用。作者在描写这一人物时，在刻画其外在的残忍与不择手段的同时，也在一些心理描写上埋下伏笔，勾勒出另外一个不为人知的形象。在本论文中，我们将对这两个方面详细分析，一方面将其归为表象的强壮，即对路易斯对白女巫的直白刻画进行分析；另一方面则归为隐性的无力，即在全书中摘选其孤独与脆弱的细节描写进行整理与进一步剖析。

　　　白女巫在童话文学里有自己的原型，其冷酷和残忍的形象以深入人心。对其隐性特征的发掘有助于我们从新观点看待其与正面角色的关系，并更深一步的理解小说的写作意图与内涵。
