Abstract：The translation of idioms is always a hot spot, because idioms are an essential part of language. During the long-term development of human’s life, idioms are concerned with historical events, fable stories, folk customs, myth and legend. The evolvement of idioms is also related to people’s daily life, life style, the environment, the weather condition and so on. A study of idioms contributes to the understanding of culture and customs in other country. It also plays an important part on the communications between English and Chinese people, and helps to improve the level of English learning and translation.

　　　This paper studies the main features of English idioms, and analyzes the strategies of translation. Through the introduction of several related translation theories and methods, find a proper way to help people understand and translate English idioms, and let people learn the importance of the study of idioms.
