Abstract: The paper gives a brief review of the achievements made in subtitles translation.Taking Avatar as an example, which the film drawn the attention of the world and stirred China’s film industry. This paper makes an analysis on the application of H. Paul. Grice’s cooperative principle and the selection of keeping or explaining the conversational implicature. The author draws a conclusion that the cooperative principle could be used in testing and verifying whether the translated texts have realized the aim for grasping the information of the main story and the characteristics of the figures. In the author’s opinion, further researches are needed to do in the progress of practice to improve the efficiency of subtitles translation.

摘要：本文简要回顾了人们对字幕及字幕翻译理论的研究成果，并以《阿凡达》这部轰动中国的电影字幕翻译为例，讨论格莱斯的合作原则在电影字幕翻译中更适用于帮助检验字幕翻译是否达到便于观众掌握故事情节及人物性格的目的。本文作者认为要提高字幕翻译的效率，字幕翻译工作者还有待于在实践中进一步的研究探索其翻译方法
