Abstract:Language is the carrier of culture, which plays a great role in second language acquisition. English majors, who are fully aware of this and who focus on cultures of English-speaking countries too much, often ignore the importance of the Chinese, which results in the dimming of Chinese cultural awareness and even the crisis of Chinese culture. So this topic is chosen here to emphasize the importance of Chinese culture, and to call on English majors to pay more attention to it. 

　　　As more and more students choose English as their majors only to find that it is their Chinese competence that hinders the study of English and even forces them to drop it, this paper analyzes the importance of the cultures of mother tongue for second-language learners, the dimming of Chinese cultural awareness among English majors as well as its reasons and countermeasures and call on English majors to pay more attention to Chinese culture.

　　　This paper first presents the importance of Chinese cultural awareness for English majors, and then shows the status quo--the dimming of Chinese cultural awareness among English majors with examples. After analyzing the reasons and proposing the countermeasures, this paper finally calls on English majors to pay more attention to Chinese culture.
