Abstract:Word is the fundamental factor of sentence or language. So no matter whether it is in English-Chinese or Chinese-English translation, the first point we should think about is how to understand the word and how to express it. Polysemy and a multifaceted part of speech are features shared by both English and Chinese, which are not only a stress but also a difficult point. Choosing and making sure word meaning are very crucial. My thesis contributes to explore how to discern English word meaning mainly from the point of view of context and grammatical form in a deep and specific way. And aim at this problem I also discussed some translation skills of polysemous English word in this thesis.

中文摘要:词语作为语言的一种表意单位，是造句、作文之本，英汉皆然。故不论英译汉还是汉译英，其基本功首先在于词语的理解和表达。一词多义和一词多类是英汉两种语言都有的一种语言现象，是英译汉中的重点也是难点，选择和确定词义是翻译的关键，本文就如何主要从语境和语法功能的角度去辨析词义进行了探讨, 并提出了多义词的一些翻译技巧。
