Abstract:Language and culture are closely related. Euphemisms are a common cultural phenomenon; they play an important role in social communication. Therefore, studying English euphemisms and their translation is good for improving English study and advancing cultural communication, which can get to good communicative aim.

　　　Euphemisms have a long history in China and western countries. Many scholars at home and abroad have studied euphemisms from different angles. In the view of its importance, the study presents knowledge concerning euphemisms and introduction of Chinese and Western euphemisms, the translation of euphemisms by some translation theory, including literal translation, free translation and problems we should pay attention to in the euphemism translation. The significance of euphemism translation is also discussed in the paper.

中文摘要:语言与文化密切联系。委婉语是一种普遍的文化现象，它在社会交际中起着重要作用。因此，学习英语委婉语及其翻译对提高英语水平，增进社会交流有着重要作用。

　　　无论中文还是英语，委婉语源远流长。不少中外专家从不同角度对委婉语进行研究。鉴于委婉语的重要性，本文分别介绍委婉语的基本知识；中西方委婉语的介绍；通过翻译理论中的直译，意译等翻译方法来讨论委婉语；在委婉语翻译中应值得注意的问题；研究委婉语的意义。
