Abstract: Jack London is one of the leading American realists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Among his famous novels and stories, he is best known for his dog stories. White Fang is one of his famous novels. White Fang is about a wolf who is separated from his mother at puppyhood. And White Fang has different experience with his three different masters. My paper is to introduce eco-ethics and its theoretical basis and attempts to employ the theories of eco-ethics combined with literary criticism to reveal intrinsic value of nature and to examine the relationship between man and nature in White Fang. With the development of modern civilization and the deterioration of the environment, human beings begin to realize conflict between man and nature, man’s position in the whole ecosystem and the harmony between man and animals or even nature. London’s strong personal and literary identification with the animals and nature embodies his early ecological awareness. In the meanwhile, he also set a good example for modern people to deal with the relationship between man and nature correctly.
